Pumpkin Carving Prep

This afternoon I decided to go ahead and clean out our pumpkins for a carving party tonight. I haven't done this since I was huge pregnant with Riley (5 years ago). When I popped the lid off of those pumpkins, the smell brought me right back to childhood. I remember all us kids carving with my dad and putting 7 pumpkins out on the flower bed. I thought our pumpkins were so awesome that surely channel 6 would come knocking on our door to interview the artists.
Anyway, I plunged my hand into the goo and seeds and invited the girls to join me. They were quick to say how terrible the smell was and were very opposed to the idea of touching any part of it. This is as far as I could get them to put their hands in.

Kate did more touching, but didn't seem to like it either.

Claire ran for "shirty" to keep the smell away.
So I cleaned the pumpkins out without their help. That's alright, it was fun.

Yum.

Gloves! Hah! We're doing pumpkins Halloween night. They're painted and glittery right now. A two in one craft is a major bonus :)

I was thinking that if you cut out the bottom, in stead of the top, it would be easier to clean. Then you set the light on the bottom piece and can pick up the pumpkin from the stem.
