Goodbye caffeine. Hello Y.

I've been really tired lately, so I went off coffee two days ago.

Apparently, caffeine leads to an increase of insulin in your body which retards the burning of your stored fat.
I also read that caffeine is a vasoconstictor (it shrinks your blood vessels), thereby increasing your heart rate and blood pressure. So when I load up on the caffeine because I didn't get enough sleep, it's just like handing me a short temper. Not helpful.
Since caffeine is a diuretic, it will increase your dehydration to make you more more tired.
I also read that if you drink too much of it regularly (I worked up to 2 cups a day) and you become dependant on it, somehow this actually slows the metabolism and makes you more tired, especially if you replace sleep with coffee, which is what I usually do to work out during the kids' nap time.

So I got off the caf and had the greatest nap in the world and I fall right to sleep at night and don't wake up at 3am with my brain going wild. It's great.

The other day I went to the Y to sign the kids up for swimming lessons. I heard my friend, Brenda in her zumba class hootin' and hollerin', while her kids were in the childcare there. I became very jealous, and even a little mad at my kids, who were not in a little class so I could work out and laugh and hoot and holler, but in fact were fighting and crying and whining that they wanted to go home, as I was trying to fill out their swim lesson paper work.
It was then that I felt sorry enough for myself to be convinced that this wasn't fair, my life is harder than all my friends who work out in the morning and get an hour away from their kids and THEN they get to rest during nap time. So I was grumpy and extremely self-focused until that evening when I told Nathan,
"I am going to have a good life! I am going to drop my kids off every morning, and laugh through my fun work out, and have a whole hour away from my children! AND THEN I am going to sit and read/rest during nap time! and then I won't need caffeine anymore." I know. I hate that it's even in me to say those things. It was really lovely.
So that's the grand plan now, and I've repented of my fit throwing. We'll see if the Y was the key to a life of ease and joy all along. :)

Haha! You are awesome. And I need to copy you. So very badly. If you're poor enough, will the Y assist you so you can still have this happy life of which you speak?

I have to admit that I love working out in the morning and then getting to read and rest during napptime. It is a life saver:)Sometimes just an hour away makes me a better mommy. Less irritation involved.

I don't know what book or artical you read, but cafeene is necessary and very good for you. It makes you sharp, funny, lovable and overall a much better person. Maybe a litle jumpy, but we are admonished to stay on our toes from scripture. God made cofee beans to be roasted and brewed.
If it is so bad for the diet, why would smart people put it in almost all over the counter diet pills. And why would all those softdrink people put it in their soda pop if it was so bad for you. Thinnk about it.
Love you!
