A sad story

Yesterday morning, as I was changing Lola's clothes and cleaning lent out from between her toes, I noticed some fuzz/hair that I couldn't remove. Every time I pulled on it she cried. And then I noticed it was very attached. Notice the toe beside her pinky toe. The hair was wrapped tightly around, and then underneath it looked like it was cut into her skin.

So, as crazy as it seems, I took her to the doc for a hair around her toe. But the doc couldn't get it off, and told me to go see his friend at the Saint Francis ER. It was apparently cut into the skin all the way around. Thankfully, Kay was able to come stay with the girls and Ange works a mile from Riley's school, so she was able to get Riley for us.

At the ER they put numbing cream on Lola's toe, but it didn't realy numb it. Then he dug around in her toe with a needle for 2 straight minutes. 120 seconds of digging is terrible, especially when your precious 4-month-old is crying with a look in her eyes you've never seen before. She looked close to passing out with all the crying. Finally he got ahold of the hair and drug it out of her skin. It was really deep in there all the way around. Crazy and sad. He said they see it more in text books than in actual patients, but it does happen. I think I'm not going to let a day go by now that I don't check her sweet little toes. The picture below is her scab ring around her toe after the hair was removed. Poor sweet thing.

that's terrible! They don't tell you when you leave the hospital to check for long hairs around your baby's toes! So sad :(

Amanda, Ange told me about this while I was at work. I told a co-worker and he said the exact same thing happened to his little baby cousin, but they had to do surgery. So, that is awful. and I will always check my baby's toes for that. Could you tell who's hair it was? or was it just fuzz?
