Advice on cleaning porous things.

Because I just finished cleaning a couple of bathrooms, and was reminded that I meant to share this with you to save you from a pain in the neck.
I am not complaining, just advising.  I'm as happy as the next girl to have a refinished bathroom.

When we redid our guest/den bathroom a few months back, I chose the tile for the color and for the fact that I could see it in the store.  It's risky business buying online and not seeing it beforehand, right?  So I chose a light gray/almond over those penny shaped glossy ones (Because because Nathan voted not white flooring and because with the round pennies, you actually have a lot more groutage to clean).

Some raised their eyebrows when I mentioned I wanted white grout with my gray hexagons.  But I tell ya, keeping the white grout clean is nothing compared to keeping the gray tile clean.  My advice to you is to always go glossy with tile.  The only finish they had in this gray was a matte finish.  It's very porous.  If you have dust on your feet and step on that tile, it just settles down in those pores.  I have to take the scrubbing bubbles and bristle brush to it.
It's a lot like paint, in that the high gloss cabinet doors are much easier to clean than a flat painted wall.

So anyway, that's my boring commercial.  Go glossy with your tile.

Ha, as long as I'm sharing advice on the problem of keeping pores clean, I'll share this little recipe.
I love to squeeze the juice from 1/4 of a fresh lemon
Add 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
and a drizzle of honey (about a tsp)

Smash it around with a spoon.  You want it to be the consistency of paste.  If it's too runny, add more cinnamon and next time just don't squeeze all the juice out of that quarter slice.  It smells wonderful.  Smear it on your face and feel the burn.  I love a little burn, it tells me the lemon is working it's magic.  Once the burn fades away, in 10 minutes or so, wash it off.  Apply moisturizer once you're dry.  Your pores will be closed tight and your skin smooth as a babies butt'm.  :)
