I've found a new favorite author and all her books are free on Kindle, so I just keep on reading her.
I don't know if my sisters will enjoy her. Just get on the stationary bike and give her a try while you spin.
She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1921 for her book, The Age of Innocence. She writes about the upper classes of old New York.
I don't know, I just love this style of writing. I love that they don't live happily ever after in the end. It's not your overly sentimental, serialized romances with improbable happy endings. She has about 85 short stories out there, but I've just read the top 5 novels so far.
I hear she is particularly well regarded for her ghost stories. I think she was actually frightened by her own writings. So, next up, some scary 19th century ghost stories, after I finish the Bunner Sisters.
For my sisters on the Kindle:
Ethan Frome is short and sad.
Custom of the Country is great
Oh my goodness, House of Mirth grabs you at the end.
Sorry Grandma, what a boring post.
