Al Pal

My oldest sister, Alyson, running the Route 66 Marathon

I never did a tribute blog post to Al when it was her birthday in September, so I'll make this post all about her since she just accomplished a great feat.

Well, as she has been known to say, she birthed 4 children so she had nothing to prove. :)  She just decided that in lieu of birthing another child, she'd run a marathon.
Doing anything for 5 hours is hard (I'd be a crumpled pile of cranky if I went Christmas shopping for 5 hours), but imagine running for that long.
I think if you click on the picture it will enlarge and you can see her big smile.  She is known for showing a lot of teeth, even while in pain.

Also, I never thought a marathon was an emotional thing until my brother-in-law posted a short clip on Facebook.  Al was just nearing the finish line and our family was there cheering her on.  And I cried.  I wanted to be there.  And she was almost finished doing the very hard thing she'd been working toward forever.  Marathons are beautiful. :)

And another short story about emotional scenes in a marathon.  My dad had a friend running too and they were waiting to see him come by.  He quickly slipped into the restroom and came out just in time to see his friend come over the hill.  They hugged and ran together down the hill.  My dad beaming.  Aren't marathon's wonderful. :)

Okay, back to Al.  Alyson is a natural born leader, having mothered her 4 siblings.  Any time we went on vacation and we girls had a hotel room to ourselves, she would not let us start the day without reading scripture and praying.  And we just obeyed her. :)

She home schools her 4 kids, is a personal trainer at 5am, and so I'm pretty sure she reads her Bible and drinks coffee at 4am.  She is  a YMCA instructor, a children's Sunday school teacher, a Christmas program leader, and she braids hair like a magician.

Ha!  See how easy it is to find a picture of her braiding.  When we have a family gathering she just starts grabbing hair.

So, I just wanted to give a shout out to Awesome Al.  Love you!  Congratulations!

It is. One time she prayed for I swear forever before she and I went to bed, and I fell asleep. I was 9. She wrote me a book of prayers and gave it to me for my birthday. my hair is permanently broken from her braids. The other day I was with an eldest child in Denver away from everything I knew, and I nearly said to this girl "You remind me of my oldest sister, and I really want a hug from you."
