Weekend Stuffs

Friday evening I made this salad for dinner (only with a cilantro lime vinaigrette rather than their lemon dressing).  Good stuff!
The girls suddenly love edamame.  Nathan sautéed some the other night with a little shallot magic as an appetizer and they gobbled it up. So, having edamame in the salad almost helped the girls embrace the kale. almost.  The quinoa and mango (yum!) put it over the top, though.
I've been craving the salad the rest of the weekend, so I may need to make it again today.

Other weekend business:

Wood burning eggs.

You know, I don't know what I'm doing.  I just have silly ideas.

I have a few more to do, and I guess I'll just toss them into a bowl and the girls can play with them.
I borrowed the wood burning tool from my mother-in-law, but you can get one at Hobby Lobby, along with the wooden eggs.  I painted just a touch, and once the paint was dry, rubbed on some walnut oil.

While Nathan took the big girls to an art exhibit, the little girls played with dominoes.

And to Adelle's Rumor Has It, the girls choreographed this wonderful dance with their homemade ribbons taped to sticks.

I got a bit of laundry done.

And after all that, we had a great idea.  I usually make sure we have enough weekend leftovers to feed us on Sunday, otherwise that's our go out to eat night.  Well, we ran out of leftovers.  But Nathan and I both agreed that eating out didn't sound any good.
We made a plan, he ran to the store, and we had fun cooking up a fancy meal.

Riley wanted to help, so I had to get out of the way. :)

We enjoyed cucumber salad, potatoes au gratin with gruyere, collard greens sautéed with bacon and shallots, and a few bites of steak with a balsamic glaze on a bed of arugula, with a squeeze of lemon.

It was a good idea.  We just kept saying, "I'm so glad we didn't go to Jason's Deli."
Seriously, it's the same price, a little more work, and much more special.

And now I need to put all that laundry away. :)
