We Love Lucy

Lucy's first week with us was a little unstructured.  She actually slept great in her crate Monday night, which was her first night with us.  Then Tuesday night she never would calm down.  As it happens, she probably knew/felt the trouble brewing in the skies.

We didn't even know rain was coming.  Low and behold, the skies opened up with driving rain, 75 mile-an-hour winds, and lightning so constant and close, we found ourselves in quite a panic.  I ran to Lucy's rescue and she was unhinged and in such a state, I could hardly hold her.  The storm passed quickly, but the night grew warm, as we were now without power.

In the morning we discovered that our neighbor's tree was struck and half of it in the road.

At 7am Nathan was sawing it into pieces and clearing the road while we ate KIX on the front porch and the channel 6 helicopter hovered above us taking our picture.  Mornings like this are special because Daddy didn't rush off to work and it changes up our pace.

The fun didn't last though, because Daddy did eventually leave for work and my heart dropped.  The longer I sat around hoping our power would just come on, the more my night of no sleep caught up with me and the more my body felt the denying of it's morning coffee (No power for my bean grinder).  Very weakly, I packed up our frozens and overnight bags, and then realized I needed to fold and load the dog crate and all dog paraphernalia.

Thankfully, we have mine and Nathan's parents so close, and they had power.  I threw the girls into my parents' pool and Lucy and I sat outside a lot because I didn't want to practice potty training on my parents' carpet.
She's a pretty one.

Thankfully, it was only a 2 day vacation.  We got back home and Lucy was so happy to be there, she chewed a rug.

Lola and Lucy.
I see a great friendship in their future.  They both mutually enjoy this roll reversal.

Oh, my twin and her 3 week old precious one were also without power, so we got to hang out with our babies together. :)

I was so happy to be home that first day.  We got groceries and filled up the fridge.  I ran the bread machine, the blender, the dish washer, the laundry, all at once.  And just sang while I worked.

And then this morning I realized how much laundry I'd washed.  Today, in-between doggy potty training, we get to put this away and do school uniform inventory. (And yes, I prematurely started painting the girls bedroom walls and Nathan put a halt to it until I finish the kitchen cabinets, thus the crazy walls.)

We're really happy with Lucy though.  She gets us up and outside early in the morning.  Nathan actually looks forward to his 5am walks with Lucy.  She only nibbles the appendages of our children when she's super excited, but they're becoming less panicky about that now.  :)

Lucy is so pretty!
Seeing that water bottle reminded me that our lab mix loved for us to give him an empty juice bottle with a treat inside. We would put the lid back on and then he would spend a good while playing with the bottle to get the lid off and the treat out.
