I ushered the children out the door this morning with all their reading logs and ponytails, giant poster board of a report on Scotland, and packed lunches. I thought the day would never come. :)
Kidding, kidding. It really was a nice few days of not being on a tight schedule. And we never would have had that report done without those 3 snow days. Claire's teacher does not ease up on the homework, ever. That was a gift from God. I was even able to get Claire some haggis yesterday to show the class.
Claire is hilarious. She was practicing reading her report to us last night. She is quiet and sweet, but with each new topic sentence she would growl/yell, "NEW PARAGRAPH!", keep a straight face and then continue reading nicely. You had to see it. She's always this way.
Nathan is always saying, "She is funny. She has perfect delivery and timing." In other words, this is her art. I keep having to remind Nathan that Claire is me. I've passed my awesomeness on to her. :)
On this fine day, all of our bedroom doors are opened with vulnerable shoes lying around, the muffins are out on the counter, and nothing is being chewed or eaten. Lucy is resting in the kennel for a couple of days after her spay surgery. I'll pick her up tomorrow. We do miss her. But we were just marveling at the ease of our day yesterday. No one yelling, "Lucy has my polly pocket!" Or "Lucy took the saran wrap!" Or the worst, when Lucy takes Claire's "Shirty" and actually eats it. Shirty is shrinking and this very sad. Shirty is a onesie that has been with Claire since she was 1. Shirty is actually a "he", and he is very important to Claire, but I fear he'll be gone soon, one dog bite at a time.
I'll have to crate Lucy for a whole week once she is home. I'll have to leash her to go potty. She's going to be desperate to run around the house with the kids, and we'll just have to leave her locked up. :(
I'm not making anything for Christmas gifts this year. No sewing. No painting. Which makes it more of a laid back month. Just cooking piles and piles of cookies every few days. My go-to recipe this month is Peppermint Bon Bon Cookies. I use the soft, melty mints so you don't break your teeth when you bite into the cookie.
Time to go bake. Lola is waiting for me to come show her how to smash the mints up. You all have a sweet Wednesday.
