A Gardening Weekend

Expanding the garden has proven to be a big job.  The dirt is pretty full of rocks, so Nathan built a screen of chicken wire to sift out the rocks.  I am going to really appreciate those root vegetables.  He has worked very hard to get the plot ready.

He's really working to improve our dirt, so he has added in plenty of manure and cotton burr compost.  We hear that's good stuff.

Claire stuck to the task for hours.  She's a hard worker.

Kate hoped her stylish glasses would help with the bright sunshine. :)

Lola enjoyed some humus and chips in the sun.

We sat at our makeshift picnic table that Kate and Claire built out of Nathan's wood scrap pile.

It was a good, sunshiny weekend that wonderfully involved a nap, grilled brats, a little sleeping in, polishing off some valentine treats, and getting dirty in the sunshine.

There is no school for the girls today, but it's chilly, so they're painting by number, and I should be working...
